Formed in 1997 in the surburbs of Paris, Union Jack was a three piece band until 2000. At the time, the band (composed of one guitarist, one bassist and one drummer) used to play its own kind of punk rock, with influences such as The Clash, Damned, Ramones.
Union Jack then went on to create and develop its own style, the so called “Bad Ska”, a fast mixture of punk rock & ska, defending strong values (against, among other things, sexism, mediocrity, hatred, poverty…).
In 2001, the first album ‘Yellin’ in your ears’ was recorded, followed by the ‘Bad Ska’ EP and the ‘Live at the Beer Squat’. From then on, Union Jack played more and more shows in Paris and other towns in France. In 2002, 2003 and 2004, they played in Paris with Leftöver Crack.
In 2003, a scratcher joined the band which continued to develop its own style.
The band appears on some compilations, such as Riot Ska, an international compilation produced by Beer Records (with Leftöver Crack, Beans, The Movement, Looking Up, The Filaments, The Foamers...).
The new EP « You don’t really know who I am », recorded in 2004, contains 6 songs and represents the current sound of Union Jack.
Union Jack is working on a split with The Gerbs, which is supposed to come out this year. |
